History

Brady Cemetery sits upon an elevated hill with a beautiful view to the east and north. Itis located on Progress Road about 2 1/2 miles from Prentiss, MS via Hwy 13 S. The cemetery has two gates and is fenced. There is a cemetery road which creates a half-circle within the cemetery. Currently there are about 400 graves.

Brady Cemetery is managed by the Brady Cemetery Association.

Brady Cemetery was established in September 10, 1851 with the first known burial being Amanda Tyrone Conner who was the daughter of John and Mary [Parkman] Tyrone. Mary Tyrone was the daughter of Joseph Parkman who owned the property. On December 20, 1900 the cemetery was dedicated as a public cemetery. Then on August 30, 1974, the cemetery was chartered in the state of Mississippi as a non-profit Brady Cemetery Association, perpetual care cemetery. A monument was erected June 21, 2005 (see photo with more details).

As of July 31, 2022, Findagrave notes 415 burials, with 90% with headstone photos. [1]

Data Transcription

  • 10 % of all marked graves

To Do

  • Link existing profiles or create new profiles for persons listed in the Table of Interments
When complete, everyone listed in the Table of Interments will be linked to their own WikiTree profile, and to a photo of that person's corresponding grave marker. The created profiles can include other genealogical and biographical information as well as a listing of sources for documentation.
  • Validate links and transcription information
Profile and photo links and transcribed information needs to be cross-checked to ensure accuracy.
  • Create an audio/video tour of the cemetery
Record a virtual tour of the cemetery that can be viewed as downloadable media on computers, tablets or other device. Such a tour would take the viewer around the cemetery to explore the history of the people buried here. Background information can be supplied. Those with mobile internet access can access online links to more information.
